About St. James Episcopal Church
"A historic faith community rooted in the loving, liberating, life-giving ways of Jesus, the way of love."
St. James Episcopal Church has been a pillar in the Wagoner community for over 130 years, providing a welcoming and inclusive space for all. Our church started with a small group of dedicated individuals in 1894, who had a passion for spreading love and kindness to those in need and following the way of Jesus. Pre-dating Oklahoma statehood by over a decade, our church is the oldest standing Episcopal Church building in the State of Oklahoma that is still in use. St. James Episcopal Church Is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, and operates under the direction of the Oklahoma Diocese of The Episcopal Church.
Today, St. James Episcopal Church continues the traditions of those who have gone before us, continuing on with their legacy, a message of hope, love and unity. St. James is a place where ALL are welcomed and ALL are loved, a place where we respect the dignity of all people, there are no "outcasts" here! To summarize who we are, we're a small congregation with a big mission: restore all people to unity with God and each other in Christ (Book of Common Prayer, p. 855). As a church, we value individuality, service, questioning, and building relationships. In short, St. James Episcopal Church exists to:
- Proclaim the Gospel, the Good News of the Kingdom.
- Teach, baptize, and nurture new believers.
- Respond to human need through service.
- Promote social justice and stand together with the marginalized.
- Work to transform unjust structures in society.
- Love, liberate, and create life-giving relationships with God, each other, and the earth.
